The ENVIROMED project seeks to enhance our understanding of the lifecycle of pharmaceutical products with an aim to minimize their environmental impact.
The project’s objective is to provide insights into the presence of pharmaceuticals in the environment, their persistence, environmental fate, and toxicity, as determined through in-vitro and in-vivo models. ENVIROMED will apply in-silico methods to furnish information about basic risk management and fate prediction of these products in the environment.
Moreover, ENVIROMED is focused on developing a suite of technologies that facilitate a greener and overall more efficient production process for pharmaceuticals.
The environmental impact of the project will be two-fold:
- the impact on the pharmaceutical manufacturing process and
- the impact of the pharmaceutical compound throughout its lifecycle.
